An agenda of dignity and hope for Afro-descendant women, column in La Silla Vacía by Lizeth Sinisterra Ossa

"Afro-descendant women and girls exist because they resist and dream, and now more than ever they need networks, spaces, and hearts that add up to affirm together that "we carry fire in our souls and wisdom in our blood. We were born to transform” (Valery Quiñones, young woman from Tuluá and community leader)."

With these words, Lizeth Sinisterra Ossa invites us, in her most recent column in La Silla Vacía, to connect with the reflections of African women and women of the diaspora regarding the projection of a collective and urgent future: that of Afro-descendant women and girls who, from their bodies, territories, and knowledge, continue to build dignity.

From Cali, during the International Meeting “Together for the restoration of our dignity” —held within the framework of the first commemoration of July 25 as the International Day of Afro-descendant Women and Girls— a collective voice emerged that reaffirms that change will not come from foreign formulas, but from the strength that is born when women are authors of their own stories, defenders of their aesthetics as a political act, and caretakers of a memory that transforms into resistance.

A necessary column for those of us who believe that another world—more just, more dignified, more ours—is not only possible, but essential.
